Our Team

Dr. J. Turner Altman is the founder, owner, and doctor of Altman Eye Center. His vision in founding the practice was simple: bring world-class eye care, advanced technology, and premium optical services to the people of Eastern Kentucky. Since opening Altman Eye Center in 2022, he has led the practices growth from a single cold-start office into a premium eye care company with three locations and five doctors, serving patients throughout the region.

A lifelong Eastern Kentuckian, Dr. Altman was raised in Pikeville and is a graduate of Pikeville High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown College, where he served as Student Body President and received the college’s Most Outstanding Student Leader Award. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, consistently recognized among the nation’s top optometry programs. While at UAB, he served as the American Optometric Student Association Trustee, representing optometry students at the national level.

Dr. Altman’s practice is recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, advanced dry eye treatment, innovative technology, and an exceptional patient experience. In addition to private practice, he leads an institutional eye care company serving correctional facilities throughout Kentucky and West Virginia. He is also a nationally recognized speaker, consultant, and key opinion leader, he can be seen around the country sharing his expertise on private practice growth, clinical innovation, and emerging technologies.

Healthcare has always been a part of Dr. Altman’s family. His grandfather, the late Dr. Harry E. Altman, was a beloved and respected OB/GYN who dedicated his career to caring for families throughout Eastern Kentucky. Continuing that legacy of service while expanding access to world-class eye care in Appalachia is one of Dr. Altman’s greatest passions.

His leadership and entrepreneurial success have earned numerous honors, including the 2026 U.S. Small Business Administration Rural Small Business of the Year Award, the Kentucky Pacesetter Award for job creation and economic impact, and recognition as one of Vision Source’s “26 Optometrists to Watch in 2026.” He was also nominated for 2026 Entrepreneur of the Year, reflecting his commitment to innovation, community investment, and improving healthcare throughout the region.

Dr. Sheri Bellamy is a native of Booneville, Kentucky, and is proud to serve the patients of Eastern Kentucky through Altman Eye Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eastern Kentucky University before graduating with honors from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 2019.

During her time at Indiana University, Dr. Bellamy served as an assistant instructor in Clinical Practices and Binocular Vision, where she helped educate and mentor future optometrists. She developed a strong clinical foundation and a passion for providing comprehensive, patient-centered eye care.

Dr. Bellamy has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, fitting and troubleshooting contact lenses, and helping each patient achieve the best vision possible. She is committed to bringing advanced eye care and treatment options to Eastern Kentucky, ensuring that patients have access to high-quality services close to home.

Now residing in Jackson, Kentucky, Dr. Bellamy considers it a privilege to care for the communities that shaped her. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care and believes every patient deserves exceptional vision and eye health.

Outside the office, Dr. Bellamy’s greatest joy is spending time with her family. She especially enjoys making memories with her husband and their two children, Elijah Daniel and Josie Lynn.

Dr. W. D. McKenzie Akers has proudly served as an optometrist at Altman Eye Center since 2024, providing compassionate, high-quality eye care to the people of Eastern Kentucky. A native of the region, he graduated from Betsy Layne High School, earned his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University, and completed his optometric education at the Kentucky College of Optometry, where he received extensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular disease. His educational background and dedication to lifelong learning allow him to provide patients with the latest advancements in eye care and vision correction.

Dr. Akers specializes in fitting specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses for patients with keratoconus, irregular corneas, severe dry eye, and other complex visual conditions. He is dedicated to finding customized solutions for patients who may not be candidates for traditional contact lenses or who require advanced vision correction. His goal is to improve both vision and quality of life through innovative treatment options and compassionate care.

In addition to comprehensive medical eye care, Dr. Akers is certified to perform several advanced laser procedures, including YAG Capsulotomy, Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), and Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI). He also performs minor surgical procedures such as the removal of eyelid lumps and bumps, including papillomas and other benign lesions. 

Outside the clinic, Dr. Akers remains deeply committed to the region that helped shape him. He is honored to care for friends, neighbors, and families throughout Eastern Kentucky and is dedicated to ensuring that local communities have access to exceptional eye care without having to travel far from home. Dr. Akers is proud to be part of the Altman Eye Center team and looks forward to continuing its tradition of excellence while serving Eastern Kentucky for many years to come.

Dr. Taylor Keathley is an optometrist at Altman Eye Center committed to providing personalized, compassionate eye care to patients of all ages. She believes in building lasting relationships with her patients by taking the time to listen, educate, and provide individualized treatment for each person’s visual needs.

A native of Jenkins, Kentucky, Dr. Keathley is proud to serve the community she has always called home. As a first-generation doctor, she is passionate about improving access to high-quality eye care throughout Appalachia and making a positive impact close to home.

Dr. Keathley earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Kentucky College of Optometry after completing her undergraduate education at the University of Pikeville. She completed clinical externships at Veterans Affairs medical centers, where she gained experience diagnosing and managing a wide range of ocular diseases and providing comprehensive medical eye care.

Dr. Keathley enjoys providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages and has a passion for diagnosing and managing ocular disease, promoting lifelong eye health, and helping patients better understand their vision through education. She is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in optometry to provide exceptional, evidence-based care.

Passionate about serving her community, she is committed to providing exceptional eye care with compassion, integrity, and a personalized approach, helping patients protect their vision and maintain healthy eyes throughout every stage of life. Dr. Keathley looks forward to serving the patients and families from Eastern Kentucky for years to come. 

A native of Salyersville, Kentucky, Dr. Cydney Bailey-Weiss is excited to return to Eastern Kentucky to care for the community she proudly calls home.

Dr. Weiss earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University before receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Kentucky College of Optometry. She then practiced comprehensive primary eye care in Pennsylvania for the past five years, providing care for patients of all ages. Her clinical interests include pediatric eye care, amblyopia treatment, myopia management, and the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease.

After five years away, Dr. Weiss is thrilled to be back home, closer to family, and looks forward to building lasting relationships with patients throughout the region. She is committed to providing compassionate, personalized eye care and helping patients achieve their best possible vision.

Victoria Altman is the Lead Optician at Altman Eye Center. A proud Eastern Kentucky native, she was raised in Floyd County and is passionate about helping patients find eyewear that not only enhances their vision but also reflects their unique style and personality.

Victoria has been an optician since 2022 and received specialized training from the world’s leader in lens production, giving her extensive knowledge of premium lenses and personalized eyewear solutions. With a background in interior design, she has a keen eye for fashion, color, and proportion, allowing her to expertly recommend frames that complement each patient’s face shape, lifestyle, and personal style.

Driven by a passion for exceptional eyewear, Victoria has thoughtfully curated Altman Eye Center’s boutique optical experience. She has hand-selected an extensive collection of frames featuring distinctive independent designers from around the world alongside the trusted brands patients know and love. Her goal is to offer a carefully chosen selection that combines exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and style for every patient.

Victoria has also built a team of talented opticians who share her passion for eyewear and outstanding patient care. Together, they are dedicated to creating a welcoming, personalized experience and helping every patient find glasses they truly love. Whether someone is choosing their very first pair of glasses or refreshing their look with the latest trends, Victoria and her team are committed to ensuring each patient leaves feeling confident in both their vision and appearance.
